Fans have watched Jake Anderson go through a lot during his time on Deadliest Catch. Recently, many have taken to social media to question whether it was in his best interest to stay on the show. This information also came out following a powerful admission from Anderson on the series.

Deadliest Catch Fans Have Seen Jake Anderson Endure Much ‘Bad Luck’ Over The Years

Deadliest Catch is a Discovery Channel series that explores fishing vessels in the Bering Sea. The long-running series recently wrapped up its 21st season back in October.

As fans know, Anderson has faced various “bad luck”: during his time on the show. This has ranged from panic attacks to the death of his missing father. Things especially took a turn during the show’s latest season, which saw him contemplate leaving the sea behind.

During one episode, Jake shared that a doctor wanted him to leave his intense job. At the time, he also expressed to his wife, Jenna, that, “I’m done. I hate this job… I want to quit.”

Taking to social media, fans recently shared that they were concerned for Anderson while watching the most recent season. As one fan recently wrote, “I can only speculate, but I think the real sad story of it all is Jake’s situation; Jake Anderson is trapped in a brutal cycle of redemption. After his partner allegedly gambled away their success and left him to lose the F/V Saga—along with his children’s college funds—Jake is now essentially trading his mental health for Discovery’s blood money.”

“He is forced to stay on camera, reliving his failures and pushing himself to a breaking point on the Titan Explorer. Because that TV paycheck is the only thing fast enough to outrun his crushing debts. And buy back the life he lost and Titan.”

Some Fans Criticized The Show, While Others Admitted They Would Still Watch

Beforehand, this fan noted, “I’ve had it. Discovery has turned this once great show into a mockery. And calling this documentary television, that was sadly true [a] long time ago.”

Later, the fan noted, “I’m not upset; I’m just realistic. This is the natural evolution of these kinds of ‘documentaries.’ Eventually, it’s less about crabbing and more about keeping viewers hooked through scripted drama.”

Taking to the comments, many fans shared other similar reactions to the story. Many agreed that the show focused more on drama than on showcasing what was really happening on the seas. However, other fans shared they would continue to watch the show as usual. Some comments included:

  • “Yup honestly so cringe now they don’t even try to hide how fake it is.”
  • “Intently watched for the first few seasons. Now it’s a background show to make noise while we do other things.”
  • “I enjoy it regardless and will stick it out until it’s ended. Some parts are far-fetched but it’s okay by me, I still enjoy the people in the show and the scenery.”
  • “I turned it off several years ago and haven’t missed it. Seemed like there was a lot of fake drama even back then. I think it was right after Elliot Neese went away that I had enough.”
