Heartbreaking Emergency!!!!’Deadliest Catch’ Star Captain Sig Hansen Rushed To Hospital Again With Severe Chest Pains & Breathing Issues!!!

Danger lurks around every corner on Deadliest Catch, yet sometimes, the most terrifying danger of all is the one brewing inside. Since 2005, Captain Sig Hansen has been the steadfast face of the series. His prowess as an expert captain has helped keep the series afloat, even earning his own heritage spin-off in 2022. But there may have been a universe in which we might have been bereft of the infamous captain.

Captain Sig has faced a wide variety of health scares that almost prevented him from continuing his life of crabbing. Through some near-death experiences, including a heart attack and an allergic reaction, Captain Sig was forced to take some time away from Deadliest Catch and his career. With Season 21 around the corner, is his health ready for another season?

As fans patiently await the official cast of Season 21, it’s almost impossible to imagine the show without the series’ staple. But not even his health issues over the years have kept him away. In 2016, while filming the series, Captain Sig suffered a heart attack. In real time, the show tweeted out, “While he wanted to keep going, the crew insisted that they dock to get help. He was airlifted to Anchorage, Alaska, and immediately rushed to a medical facility. He is with his family and in good spirits. Please send him your love and prayers!”

By the time it reached the airwaves, viewers were privy to how devastating and terrifying this moment was for Captain Sig. While helming Fishing Vessel Northwestern, cigarette in mouth, Captain Sig spoke to the camera about the final push toward the end of the season. Then, suddenly, Captain Sig began to experience some excruciating pain in his chest: “I don’t understand why it hurts so much right here.” Claiming he wasn’t “dying,” he continued the interview, until it became a serious event. Comparing it to a knife in his chest, Captain Sig was in full denial until he was ready to receive the necessary help. At the hospital, his doctor revealed that he had the “Widow Maker” heart attack that could have killed him.

The shocking moment demonstrated the terror that truly has nothing to do with the conditions out in the Bering Sea. It served as a reminder that one’s well-being overrides pride. Two years later, Captain Sig revealed another minor heart attack caused by an allergic reaction to an antibiotic he was taking for a sinus infection. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Captain Sig revealed, “They gave me the EpiPen, and then my body went into a shock.” Again, during this episode, cigarettes were part of his narrative. It was only then that he decided to give up smoking for good. “When I got out the next day, day after, then I said to myself, ‘You know what, that’s it.’ I was embarrassed and ashamed of myself, and that’s when I threw [the cigarettes] away,” he told TV Insider.

Even Through Hardship, Captain Sig Hansen Is a Natural Leader on ‘Deadliest Catch’

Despite his pride nearly preventing him from seeking the help he needed, Captain Sig’s decision to lead by example helped others do the same. During Season 20, Captain Keith Colburn experienced his own cardiac event that forced him to gain immediate medical attention. At the time, the clip went viral on TikTok with fans debating whether the tenured seaman was experiencing a heart attack or a stroke.

As a leader, Captain Sig remains at the forefront of guiding and teaching the next generation. Since the early seasons of the show, Captain Sig has served as a mentor for Captain Jake Anderson. Originally a greenhorn on F/V Northwestern, he helped train him to be the captain he is today. When Captain Jake experienced a major loss by losing his own boat, Captain Sig jumped to the rescue to give his former protégé a home at the start of Season 20. When it comes to establishing and influencing future generations of crabbers, viewers have witnessed the incredible bond he’s had with his daughter, Mandy Hansen. Although they’ve had a push-pull relationship, his ability to train her has given her the tools to take over the family business when he decides to retire. If that day ever comes. It is Captain Sig after all!
