‘Deadliest Catch’ — Wild Bill Wichrowski Shocks Fans With Season 21 Return for a Mysterious Reason!

Deadliest Catch fans recently saw the series return for Season 21. Since then, fans have been wondering if Captain “Wild” Bill Wichrowski will be making a return. This follows him sharing health updates with fans, both on the show and on social media.
Fans Watched Captain Wild Bill Wichrowski Serve On Various Vessels On The Show
Deadliest Catch first premiered on the Discovery Channel back in 2005. Through it, viewers have met various crab fishermen who brave their lives upon the sea to make a living.
The series recently returned for Season 21. Since then, however, fans are wondering about which captains they’ll be seeing this season and who won’t be returning.

One figure that fans have been asking about in particular is Captain “Wild” Bill Wichrowski. On the show, he has served as the captain of a number of vessels, including F/V Kodiak and F/V Cape Caution.
Towards the end of Season 19, back in 2023, Wichrowski announced that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. During Season 20, he also allowed the show to follow him throughout his health journey.
During an early appearance, Wichrowski shared, “When I heard it, one of the things I thought was, ‘You know what? I’m not going to stop [fishing]. I’m going to keep going until I actually can’t.’ How many people get diagnosed with this and they just shut down and crawl into a shell? And it just makes it worse.”
A Discovery Channel Representative Revealed Whether Captain Wild Bill Would Be Returning For Season 21 Or Not
“The fact that I allowed the news to be broadcast, I heard from a million people, ‘Oh, I hope you’re alright.’ They’re saying you’re gonna have all these symptoms that are gonna stop you. And I said, ‘There’s no way.’”
At the time, Wichrowski shared that he hoped he could use the situation to send a message to others dealing with health issues. He revealed, “I was hoping that the fact that I kept going… would show people that if you have this, you can keep working. You can keep your life moving. I wasn’t going to stop unless I had to.”

As fans noticed, Wichrowski appeared to leave Season 20 early due to undergoing treatments. According to Trib Live, a Discovery Channel representative confirmed that Captain Wild Bill wouldn’t be returning for Season 21.
However, fans have still heard from Wichrowski outside of the show. Earlier this year, he took to Facebook to share an update with fans. He noted, “I seem to be cancer free now. I have always felt 10-15 years younger than my age. The job I have and being around crew 1/2 my age.” He also took the opportunity to give advice to fans, sharing, “Thanks for concern and best wishes. If you have symptoms, get checked.” In a follow-up post, he shared, “My numbers are good cancer wise.”
