Alaskan Bush People Scandal: Rain Brown and Husband Arrested on Shocking Burglary Charges

In the investigation report exclusively obtained by The U.S. Sun, Josiah’s uncle Jason reported the alleged burglary to authorities on March 27, 2025.
He claimed Rain, whose real name is Merry Christmas Kathryn Raindrop Brown, and Josiah were on the property of his rental home, where the items were stolen from.
The allegedly stolen items include $75,000 in cash, $85,000 in gold coins, $8,000 in wine and champagne, a pistol valued at $2,500, a revolver valued at $650, another pistol valued at $450 and a bong for marijuana valued at $250.
The report read, “Jason had kept approximately $75,000 in cash at the locations, including various gold coins and other high-value items.
“Additionally, Jason advised that he kept several firearms at the location. Jason also advised that Josiah is the only one with whom he has shared the location of the firearms, cash, and other valuable items, fearing that Josiah only had one reason to be at the property, and that was to steal those items.”
According to the report, Jason claimed a neighbor had video footage of Josiah and Rain at the residence.
Jason also told authorities that there was damaged glass and a broken generator, as he valued the “vandalism” at $5,000.
The report read, “Jason continued to speak about Josiah and that while he was going through his divorce, Josiah had helped him ‘stash’ his valuable items up at his cabin. Advising that Josiah is the only one who could be in possession of said items.
“Jason went on to explain that even though he does not have a positive opinion of Merry, he believes that even she would not be capable of stealing from him unless Josiah told her about the location of said valuables.”
Alaskan Bush People star Rain Brown arrested and jailed on first degree burglary charges after meth abuse claims
The report continues to explain how the officer spoke with various people who allegedly saw Josiah with similar guns that were reported stolen in the days after the alleged burglary.
Another person claimed they had “rose-type” wine on them, which matches the alcohol missing from the home.
Josiah also allegedly inquired about pawn shops in the Washington area to one person who spoke to authorities.
The officer then spoke to Rain’s brother Noah, who claimed he saw “old-school wine bottles” in their truck.
Rain and Josiah were ultimately arrested on Friday, April 11.
Rain appeared over zoom for a court hearing on April 28, 2025 and pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Josiah also pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
They are due back in court in May.
Rain spoke out on Instagram after she was released from jail.
She captioned a bible verse, “It hurts my heart that my rainbows would choose to believe the lies…
“Instead of maybe thinking ‘oh no who is saying this about Rain?’ Not ‘wow what a waste’ it deeply hurts my heart. With all this said I hope y’all will stick around to hear my side of the story. God bless y’all.”
The U.S. Sun previously reported that just days before their arrest, her brother Noah called police to conduct a welfare check on his mom Amora “Ami” Brown and Rain.
The welfare check conducted on April 7, 2025 was included in court papers for the burglary investigation.
The report claimed, “Noah Brown reported the following: Mother is ‘couch surfing’ with her daughter Brown, Merry (Rain) and daughter’s aggressive boyfriend Lorton, Josiah at a cabin in Liar’s Cove.
“[Noah] has tried contacting his mother after receiving a ‘disjointed message’ last night and heard she has been drinking a lot and she is now taking meth that was given by Merry and Josiah.”
Noah continued to claim his mother is “off her medication” and that her condition is “deteriorating,” as she was hospitalized in February for chest pain.
The court papers alleged, “Merry is not allowing her to take her medications. Lorton also has guns and is not supposed to have them.”
“Noah suggested that Merry struggles to keep up with taking her medication and thinks that anybody who tries to force her to take it is the devil. Noah continued to explain that Josiah is known to always be armed.
“Before concluding with Noah, Noah advised me that his mother and Merry refer to Josiah Lorton as the next ‘Messiah,’ which extremely worried Noah.”
The officer then spoke to a man who met Josiah and Merry on a job site.
He offered to let the couple stay at his home because they appeared to be living out of her car.
“I asked him if he had noticed anything that Josiah and Merry might have had with them. He advised that Josiah and Merry had a large ‘diaper bag’ full of pills,” the report claimed.
SCARY CLAIMS
Noah and his now-estranged wife Rhain filed a restraining order against Rain on August 5, 2024.
In Noah’s Declaration in Support of Motion for Ex Parte Restraining Order, he accused Rain of “using cocaine and meth and consuming alcohol.”
The court filing claimed, “On or about December 6th, 2023, my mother went to visit Respondent and my mother was offered cocaine for her migraine/headache she was experiencing.”
On or about July 19, 2022, Noah explained of an incident that occurred during filming for the Discovery series, “We were in the elevator and [Rain] said something along the lines of ‘my life would be so much easier if you were dead, if only I wouldn’t get caught, I think that my gun is in my room.’”
Noah alleged of another incident, “On or about May 3, 2023, I was helping the family move horses up to NorthStar ranch, one of the horses was malnourished, and because Raindrop and Snowbird wouldn’t listen to me on how to properly transport the animals, one of the horses fell in the trailer and couldn’t get back up on her own.
“When I was telling them what we needed to do to help the horse stand, [Rain] said, ‘Just stop! We don’t need your help. I would rather the horse die than listen to you! I will kill it myself!! Now go wait in your truck or I will get my gun right now!’
“I waited at my truck the rest of the time, I found out the next day that the horse died.”
In a second Declaration, Noah explained his family has been a “victim” of “unlawful harassment” since his Rhain was introduced to the family on August 15, 2016.
A temporary order was denied without a court hearing because of “no basis.”
The U.S. Sun was unable to contact Rain regarding the restraining order request.
RAIN’S SIDE
Days after the Petition for Order of Protection request was filed with the court, Rain wrote on Instagram, “How come in a world so harsh it is praised more to be fake [than] it is to be real? Why do I have to pretend I don’t know what the F word is? Or pretend that I am a ‘perfect’ woman?
“Many of you have watched me grow up from a very young child into the strong capable woman I am today, who quite frankly doesn’t give a flying F#€!< about what anyone thinks of me.
“If that sentence offended you and you asked yourself ‘What happened to her?!’ Keep asking that question, maybe one day I’ll write a book.
“But as you go to type your mean comment about what I have to say remember this: What would you do if when you were yourself the world told you ‘you’re not acting like yourself!’ Who would you listen to? Yourself? Or the opinions of others? Have a blessed day everyone… God and Jesus bless and keep you in his everlasting light.”
SHOW CANCELED
The U.S. Sun previously reported Alaskan Bush People was canceled after 14 seasons.
The show aired on Discovery from 2014 to 2022.
The cancellation came after patriarch Billy’s business partner, Robert Maughon, filed a breach of contract lawsuit against the late star’s estate and business, Alaskan Wilderness Family Productions, in April 2021, just two months after he died in February 2021.
Billy’s wife, Ami, is the executor of the estate and a defendant in the case.
Testimony from Ami, taken in April 2024, revealed the show’s current state.
The documents read, “Testimony acknowledging that the show ‘Alaskan Bush People’ ultimately had 14 seasons, with the last season being filmed in 2022.”
Throughout the lawsuit, Alaskan Bush People is referred to in the past tense.
The lawsuit remains ongoing and Ami has denied the contract claims in an effort to protect her late husband’s estate.
On the Discovery Channel’s media page, Alaskan Bush People is not listed as one of the company’s “properties” and the network hasn’t posted an update on the series since September 2022.
