Is ‘Alaskan Bush People’ Coming Back? What We Know About Season 15 Amid Show’s Extended Hiatus

From 2014 to 2022, fans of the Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People watched the Brown family build their lives together off the grid in Alaska. However, the beloved reality series went off the air after 14 seasons with no explanation from the network, leaving viewers wondering if it would ever come back for season 15.
Was ‘Alaskan Bush People’ Canceled?
Alaskan Bush People has not been officially canceled by the Discovery Channel. However, the series last aired a new episode in December 2022 before going on an extended hiatus. The network also never provided an exact reason for the hiatus.
Prior to the show’s break, the Brown family experienced a tragedy when patriarch Billy Brown died at 68 years old in February 2021. Many fans believed that his death contributed to Alaskan Bush People’s hiatus.
“Our beloved patriarch Billy Brown passed away last night after suffering from a seizure,” Billy’s son Bear Brown wrote on Instagram at the time. “He was our best friend — a wonderful and loving dad, granddad and husband and he will be dearly missed. He lived his life on his terms, off the grid and off the land and taught us to live like that as well. We plan to honor his legacy going forward, and to continue with his dream. We ask for privacy and prayers during this painful time! God bless everyone!!!”
The U.S. Sun reported in March 2025 that Alaskan Bush People was canceled after the network was dragged into a legal war involving Billy’s business partner, Robert Maughon. Robert filed a lawsuit against the late reality TV star’s estate and business, Alaskan Wilderness Family Productions, in April 2021, one month after Billy’s death.
Billy’s wife, Amora “Ami” Brown, the executor of the estate, was later listed as a defendant in the case and her testimony revealed the show’s current status. “Testimony acknowledging that the show Alaskan Bush People ultimately had 14 seasons, with the last season being filmed in 2022,” the documents read, per the U.S. Sun.
Throughout the paperwork, Alaskan Bush People is referred to in the past tense. The show is also not listed on Discovery Channel’s media page as one of the company’s “properties.”
Is ‘Alaskan Bush People’ Coming Back for Season 15?
The Discovery Channel has yet to announce the return of Alaskan Bush People for season 15. However, Bear addressed the hiatus and teased the potential for a spinoff series in April 2024. The dad of three shared a video on Instagram containing several clips of the Brown family in the wilderness, with “Alaskan Bush People: Behind the Scenes With Bear Brown” written over it.
“Over the past year, I have been asked if there will be a new season of Alaskan Bush People, while I can’t answer that question at this time, I am excited to announce, Alaskan Bush People Behind The Scenes With Bear Brown,” Bear wrote in the caption. “It’s starting with the first season, I will be talking about both things in front of the camera, and behind it! The first episode is dropping summer 2024. In the meantime, you can stream all the old episodes of [Alaskan Bush People] on [Max].”

Bear has not shared any more updates on his Behind the Scenes series as of publication. However, he did share an update about the show’s future in an Instagram video uploaded on March 26, 2025. After noting that he and his family are “not filming” their show “right now,” he said that Alaskan Bush People is “not canceled.”
“The official term for the show is that it is on hiatus,” he explained.
Bear continued, “So, like, Discovery doesn’t really have any issues saying when a show’s canceled. They’ve canceled plenty of shows, and they normally announce it, and they’re like, ‘This show has been canceled,’ and they don’t mind saying that. But our show has not been canceled.”
He went on to claim that the show has been on an extended hiatus due to Discovery’s “super big merger a few years ago,” stating that the network is “still getting their ducks in a row.” WarnerMedia merged with Discovery, Inc. to become Warner Bros. Discovery in April 2022.
“So, some shows have been canceled, and some shows have been put on the back burner. Alaskan Bush People has been put on the back burner,” he said. “And it is not technically canceled.”
Where Is Alaskan Bush People’s Brown Family Now?
The pack moved from Alaska to Washington after matriarch Ami Brown received her cancer diagnosis in 2017 so that she could receive treatment. They purchased a 435-acre property in the state’s North Cascade Mountains.
Though Ami went into remission, she has continued to experience other health issues throughout the years, including a few battles with pneumonia. Most recently, the mom of seven was diagnosed with pneumonia in February 2025.
“It looks like she might be coming back Monday and be released. That’d be like the earliest possible, apparently,” Noah Brown said in a TikTok update on February 15, 2025. “I just got off the phone with Gabe [Brown]. So, yeah, again, thank you all for the well wishes and the prayers and everything. Oh, She had me a little bit worried, she did. Yeah, but she’s OK, she’s gonna be good. I’m just gonna move on from here.”
As for other big life updates in the family, Noah and wife Rhain Brown (née Alisha) announced in January 2025 that they had split after six years of marriage.
“We just wanted you to hear this from us, instead of from somewhere else,” Noah said in a TikTok video. “Rhain and I have decided it is in our best interests to separate. We are going to take a break for a while and we are no longer together.”
He continued, “I was asked to move out a bit ago, and I am now living in our guest cabin.”
Noah explained that he was still able to see their sons, Eli and Adam, and spend time with them on weekends.
“We just have a lot to work through,” Rhain added. “And that’s it, basically.”
