Where Is Edgar Hansen Now? Inside His Life After Leaving Deadliest Catch
Where is Edgar Hansen Now? The Life Behind the Camera of the Former “Deadliest Catch” Star

Edgar Hansen, a familiar face to fans of the popular Discovery Channel reality TV show “Deadliest Catch,”
abruptly disappeared from the small screen after Season 14 in 2018. His departure left many questions for viewers, and the truth behind it involved serious legal troubles.
Despite no longer appearing on TV, Edgar Hansen’s life remains closely tied to the crab fishing business, but in a different role, away from the spotlight.
The Reason for Leaving the Show: Legal Troubles
Edgar Hansen’s absence from “Deadliest Catch” stems from a legal case in 2018. Specifically, he pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault with a sexual motivation involving a 16-year-old girl.
As part of a plea deal, Hansen avoided jail time. He received a 364-day suspended jail sentence, was ordered to pay fines, and had to undergo sexual-deviance evaluation and treatment. Hansen also issued a handwritten statement expressing regret for his actions, saying, “I am very sorry for that behavior, and I have begun treatment to ensure that an assault like this never happens again.”
While Discovery Channel did not officially comment on Hansen’s legal issues, he has not appeared in any episodes since the end of Season 14. When Season 15 premiered in April 2019, Edgar Hansen was officially absent from the cast list.
Current Life: Still the F/V Northwestern’s Deck Boss
What surprises many fans is that despite being banned from filming, Edgar Hansen has not left the legendary F/V Northwestern. He is a co-owner of the vessel along with his two brothers, Captain Sig Hansen and Norm Hansen.
Edgar continues his role as the deck boss and engineer on the boat, working off-camera. He is an invaluable asset to the vessel’s operations, participating in the king crab, bairdi crab, and salmon tendering seasons.
Some eagle-eyed viewers even claim to have spotted Edgar in the background of recent seasons. The film crew is reportedly very careful to keep him out of frame due to the past legal issues.
Outside of his work at sea, Edgar Hansen maintains a very low profile on social media. He is known as a “DIY guy who loves home renovation” when he is not fishing. He also appeared briefly in a video on his niece Mandy Hansen’s Instagram, showing he is still a part of the family’s life.
In summary, while Edgar Hansen’s reality television career has ended, he remains a veteran fisherman and a core member of the F/V Northwestern’s crew, continuing his hard work in the harsh Bering Sea, just not under public scrutiny.
