As in the books she read, in real life she has two male protagonists. According to Laura, she thinks her closest friend, Michael, likes her. She revealed how the two met and clicked instantly. However, her heart lies with Birkan.
In an Access Hollywood clip, she tells her friends, including Michael, that she plans to fly to Turkey to meet her 20-year-younger partner. This came as a shock to everyone. Michael worried that their friendship might change because of Birkan. Laura admitted that she would have dated him if he had been open about it. But now, she plans to prioritize her boyfriend. She said she deserves to be loved fully, and Birkan is offering that.

Viewers already know about the significant age gap between her and Birkan, but her parents did not. In the preview, Laura revealed the age gap to her parents, telling them it is her biggest concern. While the family of three drove somewhere, her mother asked how old Birkan was.
“He’s 20 years younger than I am,” she replied. While her father laughed it off, her mother exclaimed, “Oh my god!” Her mother then asked if Laura was being serious. Laura’s father joked that his chin hair was older than her Turkish partner. Laura’s mother quickly stopped him and reminded him that this is a very serious topic. Then, her father asked what Birkan thinks of Laura.
She replied that he thinks she is awesome. Her mother interrupted to say that all Birkan wants is a ticket to America. “That’s what I think he’s thinking,” her mother continued. Her mother then asked whether Laura had ever suspected Birkan and whether she had ever questioned why a young man would speak with an older woman. Laura’s mother also asked if Birkan had ever said he loved her. “Yeah,” Laura replied.
Laura’s mother responded that it is a big red flag. “He doesn’t love you; that’s not what love is,” her mother added. She continued, noting that Laura has not even met Birkan and has spoken only with an “unknown entity.” Her mother insisted it was not love but infatuation. Laura responded that the age gap is a concern for her. When her mother asked if Laura thought she could see a future with Birkan, she replied, “Yes.”
