Kody Brown sends mixed signals about polygamy in ‘Sister Wives’ Season 20, leaving Robyn — and viewers — questioning his true intentions.

In the first two episodes of Sister Wives Season 20, Kody Brown sent mixed signals to viewers and his wife, Robyn Brown, about whether he would ever take another wife.

During the season’s first episode, Brown assured Robyn that he was content with their monogamous relationship. He hinted at a return to polygamy, but only if the new woman “adored” Robyn, PEOPLE Magazine reports.

The episode closed with Brown and Robyn agreeing to monogamy, but the next installment appears to shake things up. Brown reveals that a woman reached out to him and expressed interest in joining their family. He seemed genuinely excited by the idea.

This moment was teased in a Season 20 trailer. Brown told Robyn, “I got another one of those emails from some woman asking sort of, like, to get to know us for the purpose of joining the family.” Although Robyn claimed she wanted to live in polygamy again, her disappointed face appeared to tell a different story.

On Reddit, fans of the series claim Brown’s excitement over the message raised eyebrows. Many believe he thrives on the thrill of pursuing a new woman.

“He’s clearly implying that Robin is not enough. If someone started stroking his ego, he would definitely consider polygamy,” claimed one Redditor.

A second viewer believes, “They don’t have this great love. Their relationship has always thrived on us vs. them.” Finally, a third fan deduced, “He also needs mass attention. He needs to be able to triangulate the women against each other. He had that for 30 years; he likes them fighting over him.”

Does Robyn Brown still want polygamy?

Historically, it appears that Robyn Brown always liked the idea of living a polygamist lifestyle. An official TLC press release for Season 20 states that despite Kody splitting from Meri, Janelle, and Christine Brown, “Robyn clings to her belief in plural marriage, even as Kody Brown questions its future and entertains attention from a woman online asking to be his new wife.”

Historically, it has been widely documented that Brown spent most of his time at Robyn’s house. In a 2023 TLC clip, Christine claimed her spiritual husband was not equal in sharing his time.

“He just preferred to be over at Robyn’s house,” Christine declared. “He was not at Janelle’s house either. And we all know he wasn’t at Meri’s house,” she concluded.

In a separate Season 19 clip, Robyn admitted she felt “more of my dream slipping away” as Kody moved further away from polygamy. In turn, Brown said he “must have sold [Robyn] something special because she came in wanting to be part of this special thing, and now that it’s fallen apart, it’s messing with her.”

Will Kody and Robyn Brown truly revisit polygamy, or is it just another storyline twist? His conflicting words and actions continue to leave viewers guessing as the new season unfolds.
