Captain Sig Hansen Opens Up About Biggest Fear
In addition to watching man contend with nature on Deadliest Catch, one of the other big reasons that people watch the show is for the personalities. One of those personalities is Sig Hansen. He is a captain, and his men look to him to steer them in the right direction.
Recently, however, Sig Hansen got candid about his biggest fear when it comes to being out there on the open ocean, and he did not hold back. Hansen said, “Part of it is just, you think about your own mortality, and I’m fearful.” The captain went on to add that “it’s only because I’ve lost so many people, and I’m more fearful every time we go out on the water.”

Deadliest Catch: Sig Hansen Ready To Hang It Up And Retire?
When speaking of someone like Sig Hansen, who has been doing what he has been doing for a long time, if and when he plans to retire is always a question that comes up, particularly as Sig has gotten older. The captain is now 59 years old, and with each passing year from here on out, when he decides to retire for good is always a question on people’s minds.
Speaking on this subject, the Deadliest Catch captain said, “Well, I’m a fisherman. You’ve got to remember, you’re talking to a professional liar here. No, I think I’ve got a few more years left in me.”
Hansen continued, adding, “I don’t have the same mentality I did as before, where you look at everything as a challenge. And it’s still challenging, but it’s not the same. I’ve been there, done that, and now I want to spend more time with my family, my wife, look at all the years and decades that she’s given up for me waiting. It’s got to go the other way, and so you see things differently, that’s all.”
